Adrian Morrisby and David French have surprised many critics in Tasmania by winning the inaugural “Targa Rookie Rallye” in a Holden Gemini.

The Marlboro Holden Dealer Team replica Gemini built by Maxboost Motorsport, with 65kw at the wheels, was not expected to figure in the results but a sterling drive by the pair on the last day of the event saw the team push the limits as they powered towards Hobart and a 1min 7sec win.

Bridgestone “super soft” tyres supplied by Devonport Performance Tyres enabled Mozza to attack the twisty roads of the East coast, complemented by Dave’s experience on pace notes which were invaluable as the team committed totally to the Vandenberg-supplied pace notes.

The prize for winning the Rookie Rally was free entry for the 2008 Targa Tasmania, which is the biggest prize that Targa have ever given in its 16-year history.

As part of the prize Mozza and Dave will act as ambassadors for the Rookie Rallye 2008 and will assist future entrants of the event in entry, eligibility, navigation and co-ordination areas.

Special thanks go out to the crew, Jon Fitzgerald, Tim Williams, Jake Crawford, Troy Johnson, Chris Tanner and Ben and Bec Sheldrick.

The team would also like to thank their sponsors Taylor Screens, Joe’s Garage, SRT Logistics, Moonah Auto Salvage, Pro Automotive, Wells Bodyworks, Hill Street Auto, Motortech, Diprose Bodyworks, Reflection Panels, Sign Works, Tas Paints. Weatherhead Engineering. Speed Feed, Pirtek Launceston, Jim’s Trees Hobart, Source Auto, AutoCraft, Automotive Service Solutions.
