The British Trial and Rally Drivers Association (BTRDA) has announced a new category aimed at encouraging newcomers into the sport at a low cost.

Called Rally First, the new British category aims to bring new competitors into rallying at the lowest possible cost by reducing entry fees, limiting engine size and keeping a limit on preparation and running costs.

The series, for cars with engine capacities up to 1400cc., also encourages competitors to use Tesco 99 octane fuel which contains bioethanol, and to use on-event refueling facilities with the aim of reducing fuel useage, cost and emissions.

Competitors who commit to the new seven-round category (of which five rounds will count), can expect to save £50 ($125) on their entry fees compared to the normal cost.
