With the Nissan Datsun Drivers Club celebrating 40 years of motorsport, the club has entered a new era with three events (two rallies and a rallysprint) all allowing crews the opportunity to compete on pace-notes as well as the ability to camp at the events and enjoy the “mateship” that comes from being around the camp fire.

The first event for the years will be the 2011 Oberon Rally, taking the club back to the scene of many a battle from some of the top crews in the state. This will be the 25th running of the Oberon Rally, best known as the SSS rally and later as the Sportsclassic rally.

The rally is to be held over the weekend of the 28/29 May 2011. Pace-noting take place on the Saturday, before the PROLOGUE, which will determine the starting positions for the Sunday competition.

Assist Clerk of Course, Jamie Neale stated, “the roads in the area are as good as I have ever seen, and with the innovation of conducting a prologue to determine the starting positions, the pressure will be on to ensure the crews perform well on the course.”

The rally will be centred around Black Springs with camping will be allowed in the Forestry reserve. Put the 28/29 May in the diary for what will be a great event.

From the west the club moves to the mid-south coast of NSW to conduct round 4 of the NSW Rallysprint series, the Sportsclassic Rallysprint. This year will see the club conduct the event for only the second year. The Rallysprint is to be held over the weekend of the 16/17 July 2011.

Clerk of Course, John Lockeridge, announced that Forestry had approved the same course that was used in 2010, which proved so successful with the crews.

A change for this year is that the crews who would like to make a full set of pace-notes will have the opportunity on the Saturday afternoon. Familiarisation runs will also be conducted on the Sunday morning. Once again, pencil in the 16/17 July 2011 for a great weekend of relaxed motor sport. Take the opportunity to camp on the Saturday night and enjoy the friendship.

Next the club moves to the mid north coast for the Myall Stages/Myall Lakes rally to be held over the 13/14 August 2011.

The rally will feature rounds of the State Championship, as well as the Realistic Car Rentals Clubman Rally Series and the Rallyschool.com Excel Rally Series.

With pace noting taking place on Saturday and competition on Sunday crews will be in for a full weekend of motor sport. Once again the club has been able to secure the services of the Bulahdelah Bowling Club for the Saturday night meal.

Great Lakes Council has also assisted with the provision of the event headquarters as well as assisting with allowing crews to camp at the showground, where full facilities will be provided.

Clerk of Course, Graham Humphreys, stated that the assistance of the Council and Forestry provides a steady base from which to develop the event and with Rally Australia a month later, crews will have the ideal opportunity to hone the pace noting skills on roads that have the same character as many of the roads around Coffs.
