The championship title may already be won, but Molly Taylor and Lewis Bates head into the final round of the Australian Rally Championship tied in second place. It's a simple scenario, with whoever finishes ahead of the other claiming the coveted runners-up spot, and the Subaru driver is determined that it will be her. "Our plan is definitely to win the ARC section of the event, which means getting to the end of the rally," Taylor said this week.
"Rally Australia is an endurance event, which I like, and it's a style of event that has generally always been good for me."
That's despite a horrific accident on day one of last year's rally, when Taylor's Subaru landed awkwardly at high speed and hit a tree. The impact destroyed her Subaru WRX, but she says that the crashed shouldn't have any bearing on her approach to the rally this year. "To be honest, there was such a big break between Rally Australia last year and the first event this year that it wasn't until I got to the end of round one that I realised I hadn't even thought about the crash.
"It was a big impact, but our notes were okay, it was just that the car landed badly after the jump and threw us into the tree."

"Some stages suit our car, others suit the AP4 and R5 cars better," she says. "The roads at Rally Australia are quite technical and can get very rough after the WRC cars have passed, so it's a matter of finding a good suspension set-up from the outset. "It's likely to be dry and dusty, but I'm really looking forward to getting back behind the wheel and doing battle with Lewis." Rally Australia begins with a super special stage at the Coffs Harbour jetty next Thursday, before three days of action in the forests surrounding the coastal city.
