The Shell Racing Solutions Stages, is being run by the Brindabella Motor Sport Club and has attracted a small field of 22 cars.
The event is the final round of the NSW State Rally Championship; the Realistic Car Rentals NSW Clubman Rally Series and the penultimate round of the Shannons Insurance ACT Regional Rally Series.
With two rounds remaining in the Shannons Insurance ACT Regional Rally Series, competition is fierce in all four categories. Jon Parker and Tim Batten come into the event with a ten point lead in the Gold Cup Category. Jindabyne’s Andrew Penny is looking forward to tackling the flowing roads around Bondo.
The Silver Cup (2 Wheel Drive) category will be one to watch. Russel Winks in his v8 Commodore will be taking on the smaller, less powerful cars. Mark Sessions is out to impress with his Honda Civic undergoing some modifications since the last rally at Batemans Bay.
The Novice category could end up a battle of the women – as Janelle Ballard with husband David will be competing against Kirsti Murdoch and Rhys Pinter. Rhys has a rookie co-driver with him for the event and may struggle against the women.
The event starts at 12 midday from the Bondo Airfield (Argalong Stock Route Road, off Brindabella Road) approximately 30 kilometres from Tumut. Spectating is free.
Two spectator points will give the public the opportunity to see the action up close. Spectators are encouraged to visit the Service Park (also at the Bondo Airfield) to watch the crews work on their cars throughout the day.
Spectator instructions can be downloaded from the front page of the Brindabella Motor Sport Club’s website: www.BMSC.com.au
A BBQ and refreshments will be sold at the Service Park by the volunteers from St Stephens Uniting Church, Tumut.
To ensure the safe running of the event, Sections of the Wee Jasper, Bondo and Billapaloola State Forests will be locked and secured from Friday night. The forests will be re-opened at the conclusion of the event at approximately 11.00pm Saturday night.
