NSW Rallysprint opener a big success

The first round of the NSW Rallysprint Series, sponsored by Johnson & Kennedy Freight Services and conducted by NESCC Armidale, was held on Saturday, February 22 over a 6km shire road course at Echnida Gully.

30 crews started with 26 finishers. Four cars failed to finish due to mechanical problems.

Outright winner was Peter Roberts / Jim Gleeson in a Lancer Evo 6, with second place going to Armidale driver Steve Mitchell, with Tony Best reading the notes, in his Subaru WRX.
Simon Jamieson / Rob Towel made the trip from Queensland worthwhile by getting third in an Evo 6.

Competitors rated the event as excellent, with slick organisation, a fantastic road, great food and all located in one venue, Echnida Gully.

Keith Byrne, driving Ed Mulligan’s BMW, commented that the only thing wrong for the whole weekend was having to go back to Sydney on Sunday.

NESCC would like to thank all officials, food cookers, and scorers needed to run the event, the staff at Echnida Gully and  the competitors for supporting the new rallysprint.
