The Hamilton Car Club’s Hoddle Road Rallysprint near Otorohanga is currently set to go ahead this Sunday (August 30), but with some changes.
The event will be without its status as the penultimate round of the popular ABC Pipe Fitters Northern Rallysprint Series.
New Zealand’s extended COVID-19 lockdown restrictions means Auckland-based competitors are unable to travel outside of the greater Auckland area, which will now remain at Lockdown Level 3 until 11.59pm on Sunday.
Also, competitors from north of Auckland are unable to travel through the city to the Waitomo region. The rest of New Zealand remains under Level 2 restrictions.
Running the event as part of the series would disadvantage a significant number of competitors and the Hamilton Car Club has advised that it plans to run a stand-alone rallysprint with the 9km public road stage providing an excellent test opportunity for upcoming rallies.
The 2020 Northern Rallysprint Series will therefore become a five-round contest, with competitors counting their best four results.
The final round is the Piakonui Loop Road event near Matamata, hosted by the Thames Valley Car Club, and now scheduled for Sunday, October 4.
