Rally Australia's volunteer officials have received a communique from the rally, updating on the current event situation, and if they are still required. The rally is at serious risk of cancellation due to the NSW bushfire crisis, although a shortened route is still being planned. "By now you will have received an email ... updating you on the situation we are experiencing with Rally Australia," Chief Marshall, Iain Robertson, said in the email.
"With that in mind I regrettably have to inform you that the changed event structure currently proposed for the shortened event requires no road closure officials."
The shortened route will include the Super Special Stage in Coffs Harbour, the Raleigh Raceway stage, and perhaps some stage distance on shire roads. "If it is safe and sensible for you to do so you are encouraged to attend the event, sign on and get your shirts, cap, official pass, et cetera," the email continued. "Then you will be free to spectate the shortened event and other activities on offer, including the officials after party on Sunday evening, as well as to support the Coffs Harbour community." Tuesday is the key day that will decide whether a shortened Rally Australia runs or not. With catastrophic fire conditions expected across NSW, fire crews are bracing for a busy days protecting lives and properties.
