Held in its traditional Rubicon State Forest home, crews will face 140km of competition – linked by only 115km of liaison, including the Transport to and from the Township of Alexandra, where the event is based.
Offering a fully pace noted event, recce will again take place on the Saturday, with up to 3 passes available to crews as they learn how pace-noting is done. The competition proper starts at 9:00 am Sunday, with the first car due at the Service break in Thornton at noon, and back at the Alexandra Racing Club finish by 3:30pm.
In 2009 a couple of ARC crews entered, testing their cars and refining noting skills, and with the ARC also taking a break, after Rally Queensland on August 1 – before resuming at Rally Victoria in November, a few more crews may take the opportunity to check that both their cars and crews are still functioning properly. Widely travelled Brendan Reeves may even try for a three-peat, having won the event in 2008/2009.
The Victorian Championship is delicately poised after 3 rounds, with leader Nathan Reeves in a position to tie up the title, while recently returned Jesse Robison in a position make a genuine claim for this years Championship, and force them both to the decider at Rally Victoria.
Warren Lee is lurking close behind, gradually coming to grips with his new Lancer EVO IX, and Matt Swan in his WRX has great local knowledge, having organised in this very area a few years back, and is the only one in the regular top 4 to have competed in this event every year since it went pace-noted.
The traditional quarry junction [aka Great Northern Stand] spectator point will be in operation, with a couple of new points deep in the forest for those enthusiasts with a sense of adventure.
A limited number of “private viewing spots”, also knows as road closure points, are available. Email akademos@mucc.net.au for details.
