Snow and ice confronted competitors in the hills South of Hobart on Saturday, August 28, for the running of the, “Ken Roddam Memorial Southern Safari Rally",  round  3  of the Tasmanian Rally Series.

Mid-way into stage one, conditions changed dramatically with extreme ice and snow, making for some very wide eyes and interesting stories to tell at the end of the day's competition.

Coastal pair Lynn Rattray and Lindon Hills came out winners on the day in the Pirtek Subaru STI Sec C,  from David Waldon/David Catt, who suffered a puncture in their Subaru. They fineshed  3 minutes 38 seconds behind.

Third place went to  the  Mark Butcher and Nicole Bryans in a Subaru WRX.

Lee Peterson/Daniel Wilson finished 1st Two  Wheel drive, a further 20 seconds behind, with the Nissan Sunny suffering gearbox problems throughout the day.

Two seconds separated Marcus Walkem/Tim Kulhanek (Toyota Sprinter) and Steve Turner/Anna Flittner in their quick Falcon XR6, with the Nissan Sunny GTI of Darren Elphinstone/Michael Emin 8th.

Rattray now has a 16 point lead in the championship heading into the last round in October in Scottsdale. A win there will give Rattray his fourth state title, a feat not achieved in Tasmanian rallying before.
