This year's Armour Timber and Hardware 2013 Hellyer Rally, to be held on June 22, will be based out of the seaside tourist village of Stanley at the foot of the famous “Nut” and will cover a similar format and roads as last year's event. The event is Round 2 of both the Tasmanian Rally Series and the North West Car Club Rally Series.

State competitors will face 170 competitve kilometres on roads found in fantastic condition with new stages added to rival the amazing Mathers Road. Crews in the North West Mowers Rally Series will have 150 kilometres to battle out the second round of their club series.

First car will leave the Stanley Hotel in Church St at 12.15pm and finish at the Stanley Cabin and Tourist Park located on Wharf Rd at 7.30pm. Meals will then be available at the Stanley Hotel where presentations will be held, just 200 metres from the finish venue. Servicing will be centralized at the Loosemores Road area again offering service crews the chance to spectate.  Food and toilet facilities will be available.

Smithton company, Armour Timber and Hardware, have come on board with the North West Car Club as the major sponsor for the event and will be proudly supported by the Stanley Hotel and the Stanley Cabin and Tourist Park who are also offering discounts to competitors and officials. More details of accommodation and services will be circulated later.

Early interest in the event has been very encouraging with new crews and semi-retired crews wanting to compete on some of the most competitive and demanding stages currently on offer in the North West area of Tasmania. If all the interest shown comes to fruition, the North West Car Club looks like they will see one of the biggest fields in Tasmanian rallying for some time including two previous state champions coming out of retirement with their respective Subarus, the debut of a brand new G2 car destined to compete in the ARC, a BMW M3 driven by the event sponsor and at least one Victorian migrating further south for a visit. Targa Tasmania winner Jason White may also return to his gravel roots and appear in a Subaru, with a deal being arranged with him.

The Hellyer rally will again be monitored and tracked by the world class Rally Safe system offering exceptional assistance to the event organizers being able to see live, every car's exact location at any time throughout the event. This, in conjunction to a stand alone radio system utilizing remote repeaters, gels well for a very well organized State Championship event.

The club has been a hard working rallying club for decades and in later years has been very proactive in ensuring the sport survives, trying many ways to retain and grow numbers.  This includes the addition of Schedule R into the fold hoping that cars sitting idle in sheds will again see the light of day once again.

In another first, the club is offering a $100 fuel voucher for Hobart crews, and Launceston crews will receive a $50 fuel voucher, for competing in the event. This can only be collected at the presentation dinner by the entrant.
