Brisbane couple, Craig and Linda Newell, have completed building their Honda Civic rally car for competition in the new Queensland ‘Pocket Rocket’ Rally Series, due to begin in 2007.

They completed a successful shakedown at the Recovered Resources Australia Rally held recently in Gympie.

Pocket Rocket Rallying is an initiative of a number of former Gemini Rally Series competitors who were keen to attract the next generation to the delights of this most exciting form of motorsport.
Using modern, front wheel drive vehicles as a base, the Pocket Rocket Rally Series provides an exciting and competitive platform for experienced and novice competitors alike.

“We hope that more modern vehicles will attract a new generation of rally competitor,” said steering committee member Craig Newell.  “Young drivers have grown up as front-wheel drive hot hatches were first introduced to the market, and these are the cars they most relate to.  The Pocket Rocket Rally Series appeals to Generation Y and the sort of fun they like to have.”

The Pocket Rocket Rally Series is due to begin in 2007, with four cars expected to be completed in time for the series launch in February.
