After finishing third in yesterday's Heat 1 of Scouts Rally SA, round 3 of the ECB Australian Rally Championship, Victorians Brendan Reeves and Rhianon Smyth have completed a successful weekend with another third place today.
Today's Heat 2 covered seven stages and around 100 kilometres and Reeves brought his RallySchool.com.au Mazda2 home to finish in third place overall for the weekend after a faultless run.
"We had another fantastic clean run today and are so happy to finish the weekend on the podium," Reeves said.
"We made a couple of slight changes to the set-up for today's run and also tried out a different tyre tread to try and make up some time on Eli (Evans) and Scott (Pedder). It would have been great to beat either one of them but it wasn't to be, however we are certainly not disappointed with our result."
"The car ran brilliantly all weekend and the improvements that the team have made since the last event have made a real difference. I felt really comfortable in the car and our times were only a few seconds behind Eli all weekend so there are definitely lots of positives to take away from the weekend."
After finishing Heat 1 41.5 seconds adrift of heat winner Evans, Reeves today finished just 34.1 seconds behind the rally winner. Third place in both Heat 1 and Heat 2 gives Reeves third overall for the Scouts Rally SA and nets him 60 points towards his ECB Australian Rally Championship tally. This weekend's result also moves Reeves up to fourth in the Championship.
Reeves and Smyth won't have long to reflect on their result this weekend. They fly out early this week for the United States where they will contest the Susquehannock Trail Rally which starts on Friday (May 31).
The next round of the ECB Australian Rally Championship is the International Rally of Queensland to be held at Caloundra from July 12 to 14.
