The top seeded Polish driver on Rally Poland announced he has changed his rallying name, in deference to the difficulty that foreigners have in saying his family name!

The WRC2 driver Hubert Ptaszek had rallied under the name of “The Ptock” this year in the hope that tongues would no longer be confused by Ptazek, but he admitted that did not work.

So for Rally Poland he announced he was now going to be called “The Birdman”, and painted his car announcing the fact!

It has become an increasing problem as he has progressed through his career this year, in which he has officially entered rallies under the name of “The Ptock”!   A Ptock is a Polish bird.

His programme this year sees him alternating between a Skoda R5 and a Peugeot R5.

“The Peugeot is easier to drive because you can easily adapt yourself to the car.  With the Skoda you have to work much more to find the best set-up, which is hard when you do not have a lot of experience in this work,” he said.

“And when you graduate from an R2 car it is a completely different world!   If you find the best solutions in the Skoda you can drive really, really fast!”
