Although missing out on the upcoming Scouts Rally SA, Queensland rally driver Luke Page has plenty to look forward to when the fourth round of the championship heads north in July. He and the newly created Page Brothers Motorsport team will be looking to win the Junior Challenge section and see how well they can perform outright.
“Not only is it cheaper for us to do the rally due to the logistics, I have always done well and enjoy the tough roads Rally Queensland offers,” says Page. “It’s the last year I can compete in the RallySchool.com.au Junior Challenge so I will be giving it my all to win!”
After acquiring a new car in the form of a rally-prepared Toyota Corolla Sportivo, the team looked to a small local dirt sprint event over the weekend to give the car a shakedown and get an idea of the performance level and were pleasantly surprised.
“The new car is great! We have some changes to make but the motor is strong, the brakes and suspension are good - I really cannot wait for Rally Queensland. We have a fair bit of improving and basic prep work to do but the outlook is really positive.”
The team managed a class win, first in 2WD and fourth outright in the Ipswich and West Moreton Auto Club Dirt Sprint in the new car. The weekend was made even better for the team with the next generation starting their own motorsport journey.
“The weekend wasn’t all about me," Page said, "the label of Page Brothers Motorsport doesn’t only cover myself and my brother Justin but also Justin’s two sons Marcus and Damon. It was fantastic to be introducing the next generation of brothers into motorsport.
"Not only did 17 year old Marcus win the junior category of the Dirt Sprint on his first try but at the Dirt Kart track right next door 12 year old Damon was having his first run in a Dirt Kart.”
The team will be putting all their effort into Rally Queensland, with a budget to raise and a car to prepare. Watch this space for the new livery and more details on the upcoming rounds of the RallySchool.com.au Junior Challenge.
