Rally Australia will be held in Queensland from 2007 onwards, it has been revealed today.Â
The event, which will leave its Western Australian home after being based there since 1988, will be based within a 50km radius of Brisbane, although full details are yet to be announced.
The new agreement to base the event in Queensland is for five years, reportedly with a further two five year options.
Queensland has long been the expected choice to base the event, which has has been a round of the FIA World Rally Championship. However, the event will not be in the WRC next year, and is expected to only be conducted as a candidate rally in 2007.
Australian rallying officials are hopeful that the event will return to the WRC in 2007, as stated in Garry Connelly's column in the September issue of RallySport Magazine.Â
