Belgian star Freddy Loix is so far the only confirmed driver for the Kronos team in the Intercontinental Rally Challnge, but the race to become his team-mate has taken on a new intensity in recent weeks.

Loix, a former World Championship star, has made the switch to the Kronos Peugeot 207, having contested a partial IRC campaign last year with a Volkswagen Polo and a privately-run Abarth Grande Punto.

There is fierce competition to become his team-mate though, with former mountain bike champion, Nicolas Vouilloz, and reigning Polish champion, Bryan Bouffier, reputed to be in the frame.

Loix, who has already tested the Peugeot 207 S2000, is upbeat about his prospects for the forthcoming season.

"The Peugeot is a very good car and as always my goal is to win the championship," he said. "We're in a much stronger position now. Last year, everyone else had a lot more testing than me. This time we should be well prepared for every event.”
