According to a report in an Australian weekly motorsport publication, funding for Australia’s proposed round of the World Rally Championship, scheduled for 2009, is almost in place.

The report quoted a source close to the event as claiming that “good news was expected very soon”.

It went on to quote the source as saying “everything is coming together and the route we’re looking at is very exciting, with some fantastic stages”.

The organisers of the proposed 2009 event have been widely criticised since their plan to run the WRC round in both Queensland and the northern NSW Kyogle area, because of their lack of public information and the non-disclosure of most aspects of the rally.

Australian rally fans will no doubt be interested in the announcement of funding when it is finally made.
