Rally Australia touring road event cancelled for 2014

Organisiers of a proposed Touring Road Event to bring driving enthusiasts to Coates Hire Rally Australia will look to possibilities for 2015 after deciding not to proceed with the 2014 event.
 

Despite attracting strong interest among drivers of classic and performance cars and motorcyclists, the Southern Cross Touring Road Event did not receive a sufficient number of committed entries to ensure its viability this year.
 
The event was to have drawn entrants from Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland on a week-long run to the Coffs Coast, in time to join activities around the FIA World Rally Championship on 11-14 September.
 
Rally Australia Event Manager David Catchpole said it was disappointing the Southern Cross Touring Road Event would not proceed, but thanked Dan and Rosie White for their initiative in proposing the event.
 
“Dan and Rosie are experienced rally officials and I’m confident they would have put together a great event to complement Rally Australia,” Mr Catchpole said.
 
“However, we will certainly review possibilities for a 2015 event if the market is stronger.”
