Organisers of a new touring rally to bring car and motorcycle enthusiasts to next September’s Coates Hire Rally Australia on the Coffs Coast are urging intending participants to finalise their entries as the field starts to fill.

Open to all vehicles, the non-competitive Southern Cross Touring Road Event will start from points close to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane and take between five and seven days to reach Coffs Harbour in time for official start festivities on Thursday 11 September.

It will be a highly-enjoyable way to combine some spirited open-road driving during the day with social functions at night, en route to seeing the world’s best drivers in action in the FIA World Rally Championship.

The route will set participants daily stages of between 300kms and 600km on some of the country’s most scenic and enjoyable driving roads.

Along the way they will take in attractions such as a Sydney Harbour dinner cruise, the National Motorcycle Museum at Nabiac and National Transport Museum at Inverell.

The last day on the road traverses the World Heritage-listed regions of the Gibraltar Ranges and dramatic Dorrigo escarpment to the final overnight stop at Dorrigo and Bellingen, where owners will have a last-minute opportunity to spruce up their vehicles for the following day’s festivities.

The touring event will have its own finale, including the presentation of awards, on Thursday morning before joining the Coates Hire Rally Show and Ceremonial Start in the centre of Coffs Harbour in the afternoon.

Being part of an event attended by thousands of fans will be just the first of the VIP privileges provided to entrants in the Southern Cross Touring Road Event.

They will receive a WRC Enthusiasts’ Bonus Pack from Rally Australia, which includes three-day WRC Super Passes for all crew members, designated parking at the Hi-Tec Oils Service Park and VIP seating at the Podium Finish on Sunday, along with other special features throughout the program.

With strong interest in the event from enthusiasts in three States, organisers are urging potential entrants to contact them now by completing an Expression of Interest form at http://www.rallyaustralia.com.au/touring-road-event/.

On receipt of an Expression of Interest, further information including detailed itinerary, maps, Supplementary Regulations and entry form will be sent.
