Coffs Harbour Central plays host again to the start of Australia’s round of the World Rally Championship, Kennards Rally Australia, on Thursday, November 16 with a Rally Show prior to the ceremonial start, right in the centre of the Coffs Harbour’s CBD.
Large motorsport events do not always give the fans a chance to get up close to competitors, so this is your chance to bring the kids and get autographs from your favourite drivers and co-drivers.
World Rally Championship cars will be display, along with all the local Aussie and New Zealand entries.
Seeing these amazing cars up close for the first time is fantastic – it’s amazing just how they fit up to 50 lineal metres of roll bar tubing into a car to make it safe!
Many competitors let the kids sit behind the wheel – the seed of a dream started for some who get the bug early, going on to compete.
The established stars of the WRC are very popular with the fans and New Zealand’s Hayden Paddon is a real crowd favourite.
The Southern Hemisphere’s only full time WRC driver is expected to do well on the closest event to his native New Zealand, and over 120 of his most loyal fans come over each year and are known as “Paddon’s Pack”, travelling out to the spectator points to cheer him on.
Local Coffs Harbour home town hero, Nathan Quinn, is very popular too with the locals. Quinn took on the WRC heavyweights back in 2013, hiring a WRC Mini, mixing it big time with the established stars of the WRC.
“Go Quinny” posters will be seen all around the stages and he has great local spectator support.
