Rally Sweden organisers have been forced to make further changes to the route as on Wednesday afternoon Swedish time, the 1.90km first stage was cancelled.

This was set to be the Farjestad Trotting stage on the northern outskirts of Karlstad - the only stage planned in darkness.

Entertainment at the venue will still happen, as the stage will still be run, however, held as the Shakedown 2 on the Thursday event before cars are transported back to Torsby ready for the official start on Friday morning.

Each rally car is required to do one timed run of the Super Special Stage, which will be broadcast live around the world.

Priority 1 drivers (World Rally Cars) meanwhile must make minimum one run of the Shakedown 1 section at Skalla, near the service park.

Cancellation of stage 1 does not affect the minimum total stage distance rules for the issue of championship points.

"This was the best way to handle the situation around the demanding tyre situation, so I'm happy that we will see some good action as usual in Karlstad," says Rally Sweden CEO Glenn Olsson.

Meanwhile there have been reports of snow falling on various parts of the route in the last 24 hours.
