RallyWA has announced STechnic as a new major sponsor for the 2014 WA Rally Championship (WARC).

The Maddington-based Subaru specialist workshop is owned by rally competitors Damien Rykers and Doug Tostevin, who between them have thousands of kilometres of experience competing in both gravel and tarmac events.

Tostevin, who competes in the WARC in a WRX, said: “Subarus have always been popular not only for competitors but for also outdoor enthusiasts, spectators and officials alike and we want people to know we’re another option for their logbook servicing, repairs and maintenance.”

WA Rally Panel Chairman Ross Tapper said the new partnership was a natural fit and he looked forward to a lengthy relationship with STechnic.

Tapper also welcomed back long-time sponsors Healthway, who have successfully promoted their Quit message at WA rallies which are all Smoke Free events (85 per cent of West Australians are non-smokers and the community support for a Smoke Free WA continues to grow); and Fresh Look IT who will continue to provide core technological support including maintaining the RallyWA website and results system.

Fresh Look IT owner Kim Pollard said he was thrilled to be involved with the sport and noted some similarities between his business and competing in rallies: “Fresh Look is like a co-driver for your business IT. We have the right pace notes to navigate your business for the best result.”

Tapper said the success of RallyWA, with its increased number of competitors and media exposure, was greatly due to the support of its sponsors.

He acknowledged leading rally competitor Rob Webber who through Platinum Automotive sponsors the RallyWA YouTube segments for each event, as well as other competitors whose businesses added support including Mike Nairn’s Performance Racegear, Gavin Morgan’s Tyres and More and Mick Steele’s Japline.

Tapper also thanked Broderick W Co. Electrical Services, Novus Auto Glass, Fineline Print and TargaWest for their support of RallyWA.

“It’s the sponsors that make it possible for RallyWA to have a first class website, exciting YouTube videos and media releases from which we gain a high level of exposure,” he said.

“Without that, rallying would be lost in the forests with few people knowing the sport existed in WA.”
The next RallyWA event is the Trade Hire Donnelly Rally on Saturday May 10.

Three weeks later, on Sunday June 1, is the inaugural Newmont Boddington Rally where competitors will drive over former Rally Australia roads and jumps from the famous ‘Bunnings Stages’.
