With more than 10 talented drivers jumping behind the wheel of the No.28 Olsberg Supercar Lite at Sydney Motorsport Park, today was a watershed for the SIDCHROME EXTREME Rallycross Championship.

“We ticked a big box today,” said David Ridden, managing director, Global Rallycross Australia. “The guys gave it a hiding and the car didn’t miss a beat.”

The drivers agreed that the car was fast, great to drive and that Rallycross is poised to become the next big thing in Australian Motorsport. The line up included Chris Atkinson, Alister McRae, Brendan Reeves, Adrian Coppin and Jack Monkhouse plus fast New Zealanders Ben Hunt and Matt Summerfield.

“The cool thing about rallycross is the mixture of surfaces, half dirt, half tarmac with jumps,” said Rally Ace Chris Atkinson. “With ten of these cars out on the grid and everyone throwing it into the first corner, we’ve got a great sport here so lets get it out there.”

The tough little Superlite got a real work out as each driver completed between 15-20 laps of the short circuit.

“The 2.4 litre ford, four wheel drive, ford was a lot of fun,” said Brendan Reeves, as he jumped from the car. “The car was really sensitive to driver inputs and that’s what I liked.”

The purpose of the Drive Day is for drivers to sample the Supercar Lite with the goal of locking away those who will commit to running in the entire 7 round championship series.

“There is no doubt after today’s test we’ll be announcing the first wave of drivers and teams who will be on the grid at the first round in Queensland,” David added.

The morning started out pretty wet, but by the time the afternoon session kicked off the track was pretty dry so the team bolted on a set of softs sent the drivers out for their second run.

“The level of grip changed completely in the afternoon session, but the car balance remained the same, it really hooked up,” side Alister McRae. “It doesn’t matter whether you’re on slippery tarmac or a dry track the car is awesome.

Right from the start Alister has thrown his support behind the SIDCHROME EXTREME Rallycross Championship and that speaks volumes about the future of Rallycross in Australia.

“It’s been a big effort, but today exceeded our expectations,” Dave said. “The car ran flawlessly and the feedback from the drivers was amazing!”
