For fans, sponsors and, of course the drivers, Friday’s Test Drive Day at Sydney Motorsport Park really signals the start of the SIDCHROME EXTREME Rallycross Championship.

Outside of a short shakedown run at the Downshift Dirt Battle last weekend where Chris Atkinson took it out to cut a few laps, this will be the first time potential series drivers will have the chance to run in the Supercar Lite.

There is no doubt that Rallycross has already captured the hearts and minds of both fans and competitors in Australia with some of our most well known drivers including Chris Atkinson, Alister McRae, Brendan Reeves and Jack Monkhouse queuing to get behind the wheel at the Drive Day.

“It’s already been a massive effort and Friday will be a great day for both our dedicated team and Australian Motorsport,” explained David Ridden, managing director, Global Rallycross Australia. “The feedback we’ve had from Chris following his shakedown on the weekend was great, the car is fast, fun to drive and the finish on it is second to none.”

Drivers who have locked away their test drive will run 15 - 20 laps in a Supercar Lite, receiving technical information on these purpose built race cars in addition to finding out more about the championship rules and regulations.

The purpose of the Drive Day is for drivers to sample the Supercar Lite with the goal of locking away those who will commit to running the entire 7 round championship series.

“There is no doubt that shortly after Friday’s test we’ll be announcing the first wave of drivers and teams who will be on the grid at the first round in Queensland,” David added.

As well as those well known drivers, there are a couple of less experienced guys taking to the track on Friday. To make sure they get the best out of the car, Alister McRae will be providing driver support.

“Right from the start Alister has thrown his support behind the SIDCHROME EXTREME Rallycross Championship which speaks volumes about the future of Rallycross in Australia,” said David. “There will also be some very interested on-lookers on Friday, including stunt rider Matt Mingay as well as one of Australia’s better known Sprint Car racers  - both have shown interest in running a car in the series.”

In addition to the driver test, media representatives and sponsors will be strapped into the passenger seat for the ride of their life.

“This will be an eye opener for even the most seasoned journo,” David remarked. “I jumped in next to Chris on the weekend and I can tell you these things are fast!

“Friday is going to be busy, more than 10 drivers are booked to test the Supercar Lite which is sure to get a workout.”
