Andrew Penny has put his sensational 2018 CAMS ARC2 Championship victory down to a relaxed attitude during the Kennards Hire Rally Australia. Alongside Rhys Llewellyn in the Subaru Impreza WRX STi, Penny led the five-car ARC2 field for the CAMS Australian Rally Championship (ARC) season finale, taking out a big victory over Kevin Raedel and Ben Hayes who rounded out the ARC2 podium. While a variety of drivers struggled to handle the Coffs Coast’s difficult conditions, it was a brilliant weekend for the consistent Penny who managed to secure third outright in the process behind Steve Glenney and Luke Anear. While his ARC2 rivals were unable to keep up with Penny as they focused on just surviving the event, Penny was able to stick to his plan and cruise to the title. “We had been running really smooth and our angle going into Rally Australia was to just finish and everything will come to place,” Penny said. “The ARC2 helped us out a lot because we knew we didn’t have to set a big pace and we didn’t have to keep up with the big boys. “We set our own pace and had a good buffer which allowed us to settle down, get into rhythm and just cruise along. “It’s fantastic, we’ve had a really good time and we’re definitely going to celebrate the way we normally do. “We will be back again next year to give it another serious crack.” Penny’s best result for the year also secured a top-ten outright finish in the ARC, capping off what has been a solid season for the New South Welshman.
