The Historic Rally Association plans to rerun the first few days of the 1979 Repco Reliability Trial (Melbourne to Kingoonya) in the form of a touring road event, to be held in August 2009.

The event will be run in similar style to the successful Redex and Ampol Reruns run by the Peugeot Car Club of Victoria in 2003 and 2006.

The rerun will start at the Melbourne Showgrounds on August 8 and take approximately nine days to traverse the original route between Melbourne and Kingoonya. Competition will be in the form of special tests.

These tests will include autocross (dirt circuit speed events), khanacross, road sections in the more remote areas, and a motorkhana or two. The original road book will be used as much as possible.

Car eligibility will be pre-1980, with no special preparation needed except for safety equipment as per the Touring Road Event (TRE) Regulations.

The route will pass through Tooboorac, Bendigo, Mayborough, Ballarat, Heywood, Mt Gambier, Renmark, Murray Bridge, Mt Compass/Adelaide or Barossa Valley,  Burra, Curnamona, Broken Hill, Frome Downs, Blinma, Parachilna, Marree, William Creek, Coober Pedy and Kingoonya.

The motorsport side of things will terminate at Parachilna after 7 days, with the presentation dinner held at the resort there.

Overnight stops will be at Ballarat, Mt Gambier, Renmark, Adelaide or Barossa, Broken Hill, Parachilna, Coober Pedy and Port Augusta.

Further details on the event can be obtained from event director, Graham Wallis, on 0429 939619 or ewal7731@bigpond.net.au.

Involvement from people who competed in the 1979 Repco Reliability Trial is highly encouraged.
