Colin Smith has joined the RallySport Magazine team as a New Zealand correspondent, continuing a long media involvement in the sport.
Colin began covering Hamilton Car Club rallycross events in the early 1980s while still a high school student.
Working as a newspaper motoring journalist since 1987, Colin has also been a rally competitor, event organiser, press officer, timing marshal and a driver on a couple of occasions.
He has co-driven for successful New Zealand drivers including Ross Meekings, Brian Watkin, Will Orr, Marty Roestenburg, Glenn Smith and others, while making 16 WRC starts as a co-driver between 1988-2007.
In common with RallySport Magazine’s Kiwi photographer Geoff Ridder, Colin was also a founding contributor to the highly regarded New Zealand SpeedSport magazine.
The 2010 winner of the Motorsport New Zealand Journalist of The Year award, Colin spends as many winter weekends as possible at rally events, along with his summertime interests of drag racing, speedway, motocross and circuit racing.
Colin's knowledge of New Zealand rallying will be a key ingredient as RallySport Magazine increases its coverage of the sport in the land of the long white cloud.
