Two of Australia's most promising young rally drivers have been selected to attend a specialist training camp at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) later this month.
James Rodda (18) and Patrick Hall (17) have both been chosen as members of the CAMS Junior Driver Development Program after submitting outstanding applications to CAMS for a place on the squad.
With only five places available on the program and with applications open to all disciplines, it is great to see that grass roots rally competitors are right up there amongst the best of the best in Australia.
Australian Rally Commission Chairman, Colin Trinder, was delighted to hear of the two young drivers’ inclusion in the program.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for these two rising stars,” he said. “The Driver Development Programs to date have been extremely successful in identifying future talent in Australian and International motor sport and I certainly believe that these two young drivers will follow in the footsteps of their predecessors.
“The Junior Driver Development Program is one of those things that CAMS does for overall benefit of the sport and its members. The selection of two outstanding candidates from the rally discipline points to CAMS taking a long view in its decisions regarding the development of our sector of the sport,” Trinder said.
Past CAMS Driver Development Program participants include World Rally Championship driver Chris Atkinson, as well as several current Australian Rally Championship contenders, including Eli Evans, Glen Raymond and Spencer Lowndes.
The 2008 CAMS Junior Driver Development Program consists of the following squad members:
James Rodda - Rally
Patrick Hall - Rally/Khanacross & Motorkhana
Sean Whitfield - Super Karts
Rhys Howell - Hillclimb/Sprints/Motokhana/Autocross & Khanacross
Rhys Newman - Super Karts/Sprint Karts
The intensive three-day camp will take place at the AIS in Canberra from August 25-27, 2008.
