Northern Districts Sporting Car Club (NDSCC) juniors Matt Daniels and Clayton Chapman have proven the faith shown in them by competing successfully in last weekend's Goodyear Auto Care Sumner Park Rally conducted at Gallangowan in Queensland.
Both young men finished the tough event with Clayton finishing 14th outright and Matt 19th out of 20 finishers. Both fathers who navigated for their sons reported that the boys listened carefully and had no scary moments and approached the event with maturity.
N.D.S.C.C are rapt with the boys' performances, both have worked their way through the N.D.S.C.C junior development program. The club ran a Motorkhana the weekend before the rally with 12 junior drivers out of 33 starters. This event was directed by 20 year old Tim Dillon, himself a
junior product of N.D.S.C.C.
Nikki Doyle from N.D.S.C.C, Margot Knowles from the Qld State Rally Panel and the Brisbane Sporting Car Club put in a lot of hard work in gaining approval for the boys to compete.
The Australian Rally Commission also had the foresight to allow these learner drivers this opportunity, and hopefully other young drivers can follow in their wheel tracks.
