The Suzuki Swift has always been a giant killer and now these fast and reliable pocket rockets will be lining up to take on the field in the 2WD NA Class of the SIDCHROME EXTREME Rallycross Championship.
With the ink still drying on the deal, we caught up with Greg Cox, general manager at GMC Motorsport Services to find out more about the plans.
“The Australian SWIFT Racing Series has been a popular breeding ground for quality drivers,” Greg explained. “But we never rest on our laurels and when the opportunity came up to join the SIDCHROME EXTREME Rallycross Championship, it was too good to pass up.”
GMC Motorsport has nominated for five entries in the two-wheel drive non-turbo class.
“We see it as the perfect fit and the reintroduction of Rallycross into Australia provides us with the opportunity to utilise the existing SWIFT Racing Series infrastructure to access a positive entertainment marketing venture that is already generating expansive media coverage,” Greg explained.
GMC Motorsport has put together a number of cost effective options to join the Championship in an RS16 Swift.
“Leveraging our current resources we have put together an Arrive and Drive Package which costs less than $50,000 to run in all seven rounds of the Championship,” Greg said. “Anyone who has been around motorsport knows that’s value for money.”
In addition, competitors can also purchase cars outright.
The 2WD NA class will be home to a diverse variety of popular cars including Nissan Silvias, AE86 Sprinters, Honda Civics, Mazda RX7s and the evergreen BMW 3 Series. The only thing they will have in common is wheel size (17x8) and no forced induction.
While the category will be limited to 10 cars the action will be loud, fast and ultra competitive as well as being the breeding ground for our next generation of Rallycross stars.
“It will be great to have five SWIFTS on the grid at the first round of the Championship on the Gold Coast,” said David Ridden, managing director, Global Rallycross Australia. “These little things are fast and ultra reliable so they’re sure to be in contention for a win even in such a competitive class.”
Interest in the category is huge. To secure your spot on the grid in a competitive SUZUKI SWIFT contact Greg at GMC Motorsport for more details:
