Tasman Cup back on the agenda for Aus / NZ rallying

An international rally series between Australia and New Zealand could be back on the agenda after recent interest in the idea. Not since the Tasman Cup was held in the 1990s has a series between the two countries been conducted, but CAMS’ Michael Smith believes a revival could be getting closer. “It’s something that we’ve certainly looked at it,” Smith said. “It’s one of the reasons we looked at a common vehicle platform between both countries, and the opportunities that might have moving forward. “It’s certainly not off the agenda, but probably won’t happen for next year, but there’s a good chance it will happen again in the future. “We’ve had a lot of discussion with Motor Sport New Zealand and they are keen to pursue it, as are we. “A lot of work needs to go into it to make it happen, including the costs, but in principle we both see a lot of upside,” Smith added.
