Andrew Taylor and Robin Smalley, driving a Mazda RX7, won last weekend’s Historic Rally Association “Blue Ribbon Rally” which was conducted in the Alexandra region of Victoria.
Taylor and Smalley proved far too good for the opposition by coming home two and a half minutes ahead of second-placed David and Kate Officer (Mitsubishi Colt Galant) and a further minute ahead of third-placed David Burn and Stephen Dunbar, also driving a Colt Galant.
In what was undoubtedly their best result yet, the family combination of Brendan and Simon Brown (Datsun 180B SSS) placed fourth, exactly two minutes clear of Greg Gibson and Jenny Cole (BMW 2002).
The event featured a high attrition rate of 25%, unusual for an event of this calibre; pre-event favourites Alan Upton and Mark Laidlay were one crew who failed to cross the finish line.
