Volkswagen Motorsport has announced they are offering the first detailed improvements on their Polo GTI R5 rally car. While updates for the car have been in the works for some time, many of the improvements are already being delivered. The car will receive modified suspension parts in spring, while new components for other key areas of the car will be developed over the course of the year. “As is well known, if you are not moving forward, you are always moving backward in the world of motorsport,” said François-Xavier “FX” Demaison, Technical Director at Volkswagen Motorsport. “As such, it is hugely important to be constantly working on ideas and solutions for improved performance and durability. Thanks to the comprehensive feedback we receive from our customers, we have been working on updates for the Polo GTI R5 since last year and the first detailed improvements are already being delivered to customers.” Volkswagen is also stepping up the production numbers of the car to reach a higher than expected demand.

20 percent more Polos than initially planned will now be built this calendar year before production is set to continue into the years after. “The success story of the Polo GTI R5 is overwhelming - more than 75 victories and 125 podium results have already been clinched by the end of 2019,” says Volkswagen Motorsport Director Sven Smeets. “But not only the successes of our customers are important to us, but also their experience in the most varied conditions - whether on asphalt, gravel or on ice and snow. Our engineers use this feedback to improve the Polo GTI R5 in detail. After all, our aim is to ensure that the Polo GTI R5 remains a success story.”
