The FSportFiestaST Rally Team tested their new car in Canberra today.  The team will be one of only six Australian teams competing in the 10th round on the FIA World Rally Championship in Coffs Harbour next month.

The team took delivery of the car last Tuesday after it cleared Customs and AQIS.  Preparations during the week concentrated on fixing a couple of small problems and basically giving the car a thorough check in preparation for todays test.

For driver Adrian Coppin today was the first chance to see what the new car could do.  He spent the first hour circulating around the stage laid out in a pine plantation just outside Canberra to get a feel for the LHD vehicle.

“It’s a very nice car to drive but completely different from the Excel” Coppin said.  “The whole car works really well from the suspension to the brakes and the gearbox,” he said.

The test was cut short due to a power steering leak but the team is confident they have some useful data to help with the setup during the week.  The car now goes back to the workshop to be completely stripped down and prepared for the WRC round.

Co-Driver Tim Batten said “We have a lot of work ahead and there are going to be a few late nights but we are now confident the car has the ability for Adrian to have a good run."

The next outing for the team will be a test day with the WRC teams on the Monday before the event.
