Kimberley Barson and Cathy Rainer drove the Team Hyundai Rallye Accent to a fine third place in last Saturday’s Rallye des Femmes held in Canberra. The rally is held each year to wrap up the ACT rally year and the drivers must be female.
The event was won by Cathy Donohue and Renee Jeffrey in a highly modified Mitsubishi Evo 8 with second place going to Rebecca Dirickx and Alexander Rodgers in a Datsun 1600 which is also highly modified .
Kimberley and Cathy, who were competing in Canberra for the first time, quickly acclimatised to the local road conditions and drove the Hyundai Motor Company Australia sponsored standard Accent extraordinarily well to hold off many close competitors.
Kimberley and Cathy were extremely excited at being able to feature so prominently in their first attempt at Rallye des Femmes and are looking forward to returning again next year.
During 2009 Kimberley has being competing in a Hyundai Excel for Team Gunnawyn Motorsport in the Victorian Hyundai Excel Rally Series where she finished 3rd, and the Victorian Rally Championship where she also finished third in the PRC 2 class. Cathy competed in a Hyundai Lantra during 2009, but may also co-drive in the Victorian Excel Rally series in 2010.
Both ladies expressed sincere gratitude to the Hyundai Motor Company Australia and Mick Gillett for having the faith in their ability and allowing them the privileged use of Mick’s Accent.
As the 2009 rally season has now come to a close, Kimberley has her sights set on improving her results in 2010 with Team Gunnawyn Motorsport which is proudly supported by Traf Tractor and Machinery and Ferntree Gully Hyundai Genuine Parts and Service.
