Seventeen year old Tristan Kent, competing in only his third rally as a driver, scored his first ever top 10 finish in last weekend's Caltex Airport Starmart Rally, held in Kowen Forest to the east of Canberra.

Kent, co-driven by Ray Baker in an Subaru RX Turbo, found the going tough with car dramas during the event, including dropping onto 3 cylinders midway through the 44.5km third stage.  The team decided to soldier on and get some driving practice.  Tristan drove the car like a more experienced driver and ended up bringing the car home in 10th outright and first Class P6.

The roads in Kowen were in top condition, the main issue was dust, as Tristan was back in the field surrounded by Commodores, which are renowned for throwing up a lot of dust.

The event was won by Ric Cary and Phil Morley, with Mark Sessions in second.

The next event for Tristan and Ray will be the National Capital Rally at the end of October.
