From November 3 – 5, Mt Buller will be alive with the excitement of the fifth Mt Buller Sprint. The annual tarmac rally event promises huge excitement for competitors and spectators alike. It is the biggest single event staged at Mt Buller throughout the year and features renowned racing and rally drivers from around Australia.

Up to 120 cars are expected to compete in the event that features 10 timed runs up the 16km tourist road east of Mansfield in North Eastern Victoria.

Veteran racer Jim Richards, recent winner of Targa West and Rallye Burnie, will return to attempt to reclaim his Mt Buller title from last year’s Lamborghini winners from Tasmania – the uncle and nephew duo of Jason and John White.  “I really enjoy competing in the Mt Buller sprint because it is a unique event racing 16 km uphill,“ Richards said.

Channel Nine’s Car Show host Glenn Ridge, who has a passion for motor sports, and has been participating in various motor racing events for the last 15 years, will also be competing in his Mazda RX7 SP.  “It’s one of the best tarmac races in the country from a competition point of view. It’s a very serious race and the speeds can be extremely quick. All round it is a very enjoyable event from the racing to the socialising and for spectators as well,” said Ridge.

Two times Bathurst winner Tony Longhurst will also be back in his Subaru WRX, while TV personality Grant Denyer, fresh from his second outright result at the Suncoast Rally will also be vying for the title in his WRX.  Kim Ledger, father of Aussie film star, Heath Ledger, is also competing for the first time in his Mitsubishi Evo 9.

Mt Buller offers excellent spectator viewing points from the clocktower in the village and the CSIR carpark.  Spectators can dine on a selection of gourmet foods whilst enjoying specialty wine and beer while watching the cars at close hand. Activities designed for kids will keep them occupied while adults enjoy the hospitality and the thrill of seeing live motor sport action up close.

An easy three hour drive from Melbourne, Mt Buller is the most accessible alpine resort in Australia, offering the perfect summer weather escape.  Mt Buller features a range of outstanding restaurants and various accommodation options, making it a great place to enjoy the local cuisine and traditional mountain hospitality.
