Secure Glass team driver Roman Watkins and co driver Toni Feaver completed a tough weekend at this year’s Quit Forest Rally. A host of small problems kept them from a stronger showing at their home event held last weekend, 16-19th April.

The team’s car needed some attention after the media shakedown as a result of making contact with a concrete barrier. Fortunately the damage was just superficial, but this was to be the beginning of an eventful weekend for the team.

The major issue was that the car’s centre differential was not working for most of the weekend. This made the car handle like a rear wheel drive and caused some heart stopping moments. The pair even stopped mid stage thinking that they had picked up a rear puncture.

Despite these problems Watkins and Feaver were still able to set 3rd fastest time on Ellis as well as a number of top 5 times, which is encouraging for future events. They extended their lead in the West Australian State Championship by 38 points over Chris Anderson and Tom Wilde. The team also finished 6th outright in the Australian Rally Championship for the weekend.

“We’re positive we can resolve all the issues with the car before Coffs Harbour, we’ve had great support from Kevin and the team at Possum Bourne Motorsport and together we’ll get on top of it” said team manager Gary Matthews.

“I know there is more speed to come. Given my absence from the sport for nearly two years, I’m happy with the final result. We showed good speed when the car was working, and I’ll be trying as hard as possible to get on the pace of the front guys for the next event in Coffs Harbour” said Watkins.

The team are now focusing on this next round in the Australian Rally Championship, held on the 14-16 May.,p> Follow the team on facebook - Secure Glass Rally Team.
