Nine days after his team scored a major victory on home ground at Neste Rally Finland, it has been announced that the sporting director of TOYOTA GAZOO Racing World Rally Team, Jarmo Lehtinen, will leave the team.

Jarmo Lehtinen will leave Toyota Gazoo Racing after Rallye Deutschland.Lehtinen will depart after ADAC Rallye Deutschland, the next round of the World Rally Championship.

It has been rumoured in Finland that personal strains with the team principal, Tommi Makinen, may have been behind the move.

Until then Lehtinen’s duties will be shared between rally engineer Christopher Rowden and test manager Timo Kankkunen, the brother of four times World Champion Juha.

No reason has been given for the move.

48-year-old Lehtinen has been sporting director for Toyota since the team returned to World Rally Championship competition with the Yaris WRC, and as a professional co-driver he won 15 WRC events alongside Mikko Hirvonen.
