A Trials and Rallies Reunion during the weekend of November 3rd and 4th, 2012 will celebrate the era of Australia’s long-distance motoring events and car rallies that started back in 1953, when the REDeX Round Australia Reliability Trial captured the interest of an entire nation and encouraged the growth of rallying in Australia that would reach its peak some three decades later.

The Reunion activities arranged by Will Hagon, Hal Moloney, Peter ‘Flash’ Flanagan and Dan and Rosie White are centred on the villages of Kendall and Kew and the forested foothills along the Mid-North Coast, NSW.

This was “Southern Cross Rally” territory during the seventies; however the organisers are hoping that many different events will be acknowledged in their displays of old photographs and printed articles.

Reliability trials from earlier decades, car club events, State and National Rally Championship rounds, International rallies and trans-continental marathons will provide a wealth of stories for those attending the Reunion.

A souvenir booklet is being assembled with personal recollections, articles and photographs sourced from a variety of events … and a few other surprises.  Also included are travel instructions and maps for self-drive tours over rally sections of old.  Several of the routes selected are now tourist drives on sealed and unsealed roads; whilst others comprise forest roads and trails currently used in special stage events.

The souvenir booklet will be included in the Reunion packages, and available also for separate purchase.

All manner of rally memorabilia will be on display at the Kendall Services and Citizens Club throughout the Reunion weekend.  The organisers are aiming to acknowledge as many events as space will allow.

Enthusiasts throughout Australia are invited to submit “the best” of their rallying memorabilia up to and including the Castrol International Rallies held in the ACT during the early eighties.  Even if you are unable to attend, your copies of printed material and photos would be appreciated.

Those who contribute material for the booklet and/or displays will be acknowledged and receive either a rebate on their Reunion package purchases or a complimentary Reunion souvenir booklet.

However it is advisable that you do not submit your original items for display – they are irreplaceable and far too valuable nowadays.  Copies trigger the same memories and interest.

Earlier this year Will Hagon opened his “Wonderful World of Wheels /Pit Stop” venue at Kew.  Housed in a former service station building, Will’s incredible collection of motoring memorabilia, model vehicles and almost anything you care to name could keep two-wheel and  four-wheel enthusiasts enthralled for days.  It is a perfect location for an informal gathering on Saturday morning as people begin to arrive - hopefully they’ll be driving their trusty steeds of old.

The formal activities on the Reunion program all take place on Saturday, November 3rd, starting with the Welcome Ceremony and Official Flag Off at Will Hagon’s “Kew Pit Stop” at 2:00 pm.

Saturday evening’s functions will commence with the Reunion Dinner at 6 o’clock in the Riveroaks Dining Room at Kendall Services and Citizens Club, and then from 8 o’clock continue in the Club’s Auditorium with several guest speakers, and a number of significant achievements to be recognised.

If you are interested in attending, contact the organisers to receive further information regarding the Reunion packages along with details of rebates for early replies to this notice.

Local maps are available highlighting the various venues at Kew and Kendall.  Motel accommodation and powered camping facilities close by the venues are available at very reasonable tariffs.
