Seven hours after the finish of Catalunya Rally, stewards announced a severe penalty against Hungarian privateer, Frigyes Turan, for running overweight suspension units. Â
The penalty involved was 25 minutes, enough to relegate Turan from third in the WRC2 category to eighth. Â
The championship significance was unexpectedly to enhance the WRC2 championship prospects of Teemu Suninen, who because of Turan’s problem fininishes fourth in the category, instead of fifth, giving him two extra points. Â
This was the second time on this event that competitors gained unexpected championship advantage because of the misfortunes of rivals. This was the background to how Osian Pryce came to win the Drive DMack Fiesta Trophy.  - Martin Holmes  Â
