South Australian rally driver, Guy Tyler, is set to return to the Australian Rally Championship at this weekend’s Adelaide Hills Rally (AHR) after a few years on the sidelines.
“After contesting the 2016 British Junior Rally Championship, it’s safe to say I have had to take a few years to recover financially,” Tyler said.
“It was an experience of a lifetime competing overseas, but I am looking forward to getting back into the rallies I love.”
Tyler who has spent the last 12 months building himself a Mitsubishi Evo 7 to contest the SA Rally Championship and selected ARC rounds.
“The Evo is fairly stock, but they are good cars and I have high hopes of getting some good results in it.
“Although I haven’t driven in any rallies lately, I have kept in good practice through my work at Rallyschool Australia and my main role at The Bend Motorsport Park.”
“Along with this I’ve been contesting several local rallysprints and have been navigating for Damian Reed and Steve Fisher in the SA Rally Championship over the past year, which has kept me fresh; but nothing compares to driving.”
To boost his return to rallying, Guy has teamed up with Independent Air Solutions (IAS), who have come on board as his major sponsor.
To add some unwanted excitement to the team’s entry into AHR, the engine in the Evo blew up on a pre-event test two weeks ago. Fortunately, the multi-talented team at IAS were able to tear the engine down and have it rebuilt just in time for the Rally.
“I can’t thank the guys at IAS enough for all their work getting me to the start of AHR, I now need to try my best to get them a good result!”
The Adelaide Hills Rally kicks off on Saturday, and once again features the brilliant Super Special Stage at The Bend Motorsport Park’s Stadium Circuit on Saturday night – one not to miss!
