The Victorian Rally Panel has announced that there will be no state championship in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Victoria is the Australian state hardest hit by the virus. Whilst the calendar has been shuffled consistently over recent months, the possibility of getting events off the ground in the next couple of months is next to impossible. Melbourne is in a strict Stage 4 lockdown and will be for the foreseeable future, while the rest of the state are in Stage 3 restrictions. Every person in Victoria must wear a mask when outside their house. "This decision was reached after consultation with competitors and event organisers and was presented to the Victorian State Council Executive," the statement said. "The uncertainties around Victorian Government restrictions for the remainder of 2020 means that we cannot provide competitors with the structure and predictability that the State Championship should offer." The Victorian Club Rally Series has also been cancelled. "These changes will provide the remaining calendared events for 2020 with increased flexibility regarding their event formats," the statement continued. "Applications for 2021 events have been received and a draft calendar is being prepared which will be announced in due course."
