Encouraged by securing the 2016 West Australian Rally Championship, Dylan King (22) has now set his sights on Rally Australia from November 17 to 20.

“Since competing in my first rally at the age of 16 it has been a dream of mine to drive at a WRC event,” King said.

King won the WA title with fellow WA co-driver, Abbey Hayes (20), who is not available for the event due to university exams.

“Unfortunately I need to put my uni studies before rallying, so I won’t be able to make it over, but I’m sure Dylan and Daymon of them will do WA proud,” Hayes said.

Daymon Nicoli (22) is another WA competitor who brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge of the Coff Harbour roads, having previously competed in the event a number of times.

“I’m so excited to be given the opportunity to co-drive with Dylan. We have been good mates and competitors for a long time and I’m looking forward to being in the car with him,” Nicoli said.

Entering in the WRC category, King is hopeful he can be competitive given the speed he has carried this year, and with Nicoli’s experience.

“Although we haven’t competed a great deal together, I have known Daymon a long time and am confident we can get the synergy that’s needed between driver and co-driver.”

The opportunity would not have been possible without the efforts and sponsorship of the WA rally community. The decision to enter was entertained after King won the WA title, however, when the team first sat down and established a budget it appeared that the event might be out of reach.

Thanks to the encouragement and support of the WA rally community, combined with King’s determination, offers of support started flowing in. The opportunity would not have been possible without the support Lee’s Transport, Aslab, Trade Hire, DK Earthworx, TJ Signs and Carrington’s Traffic Services.

The King Motorsport team are now working feverishly to prepare the Subaru WRX for the event after competing in a full season of the West Australian Rally Championship.

The team will head east a week before the event to establish a team base and finalise the car’s preparation.
