The newly-formed Podium Tyres business has been given the MRF Motorsport Tyres distribution contract for Western Australia.
Podium Tyres' Murray Hynes, Craig Wimbridge and Leigh Hynes.Podium Tyres is a partnership of three WA rally stalwarts, Murray Hynes, Craig Wimbridge and Leigh Hynes, who all have previous experience with MRF gravel rally tyres.
Murray’s MRF knowledge extends to the Asia Pacific Championship while working with the MRF Tyres Race Rorque team, Leigh won the 2008 and 2011 W.A Rally championships using MRF tyres, and since his return to rallying several year ago, Craig has used MRF tyres exclusively.
“These are very exciting times for MRF and WA rallying,” Murray said after the announcement. “Together with Vivek’s and MRF’s passion and commitment to all forms of motorsport, we’re confident of a successful partnership that will benefit firstly gravel rallying in Western Australia, then other forms of motorsport. These are exciting times indeed.”
Podium Tyres will be providing on-event service at all WA gravel rallies, with additional support for events, competitors and officials being planned.
The first round of the Onslow Contracting WA Rally Championship is the Trade Hire Kin Kin Rally on March 25th.
MRF Tyres were last week announced as the control tyre for the Australian Rally Championship for the next three seasons.
