Olly Clark, son of the late Roger Clark, the former works Ford rally driver and British championship, was the outright fastest driver at the three-day Goodwood Festival of Speed hillclimb for the second time, this year clocking 46.29 seconds.  His special “Gobstopper 2” car is a converted 800 bhp Subaru Impreza.

Bad conditions caused difficulties for two wheel drive cars on the French gravel championship Terre de Langres, which was also a qualifying round of the Peugeot 208 Rally Cup.  Jean Marie Cuoq (Citroen C4 WRC) finished a half minute ahead of Julien Maurin’s R5.

Latest news from Hyundai.  It is believed that the 2/3 door car used used as the prototype Hyundai 2017 rules car is the latest version of the Coupe which they had hoped would be used as the basis for their 2016 World Rally Car.  

Changes in company production schedules made the previous Coupe model ineligible as the basis for the 2016 car.  Meanwhile, New Zealander Rob Benson has been appointed as Head of the Hyundai Motorsport Engine department.

The Kenyan Motorsport Federation sent delegates to last week’s FIA Sport Conference in Turin to plead the case for the return of the Safari Rally to the World Rally Championship.  

For two years the Safari Rally has been run with competitive sections held only on closed private roads.  This year it was run essentially as a single venue event.

Freddy Loix’s eleventh win in Ypres was an especially remarkable achievement.  On every stage he was beaten by at least one other driver, except on one occasion when he made best time, tied with Bryan Bouffier!

Jose Pedro Fontes won the Portuguese championship Vidreiro Rally in his Citroen.  Diego Salvi had a heavy crash in his Skoda.

Many questions have been raised after Ypres.  Why was the once proud international championship ERC Ypres Rally little more than a Belgian championship event?   Why was there none of ERC promoter Eurosport Event’s usually spectacular aerial footage?  Will the event even be in the ERC next year?
