Martin Holmes has the weekend's international rally news covered and gives his brief rundown of events in Portugal, Sweden, Belgium and Finland.

Portugal

Armindo Araujo won the Rally Serras de Fafe e Felguiras, opening round in the Portuguese national series in a Skoda Fabia R5 evo, over a minute in front of Bruno Magalhaes’ Hyundai i20 R5.  Both Dani Sordo and Ott Tanak unofficially competed on this event in works Hyuundai i20 Coupe WRC cars out of classification, with Tanak’s car featuring aerodynamic changes planned for the WRC    Nikolay Gryazin was leading the event two stages from the end before going off the road.

Mexico

A surprise entry boost for Rally Mexico third round of the 2020 WRC has been reported, with a fifty percent increase in numbers compared with last year.  The 2020 official list names 40 crews, including ten World Rally Cars, three WRC2 cars, ten WRC3 cars and nine national category cars including Ken Block’s special Sierra Cosworth.  This is due to be Dani Sordo’s first WRC event with Hyundai for over four months.  Special feature of the route of this year’s event is the physical completion of the new road joining Leon with nearly Silao which traditionally has been a traffic hazard.

Sweden

Second round of the Swedish national series was the Rally Vannas in north Sweden, won by Mattias Adielsson’s Skoda Fabia R5 followed by the Fabia evos of Mattias Ekstrom and Thomas Thunstrom.  Patrick Flodin won the two-wheel drive category in a Volvo 940 while veteran rallyman PG Andersson took part in a Fiesta R5 but retired with transmission trouble.

Belgium

Ghislain de Mevius won the Belgian championship Rally van Haspengouw in a Fabia R5 evo, nearly a half minute in front of Kris Princen’s Citroen C3 R5 and the Skoda evo of Fernemont.

Finland

Final winter rally of the year in Finland was the Itaralli in Joensuu in which Emil Lindholm beat fellow Fabia evo driver Teemu Asunmaa, both drivers equal on national series points.  In third place was Craig Breen’s Hyundai.
