Ten times Italian national champion, Paulo Andrueucci, won the Sanremo Rally in his Peugeot 208 T16, beating Fiesta R5 driver Simone Campedelli by 9.1 seconds. Together they head the 2018 national series after two rounds, with Andreucci eights points in front. = = = = Fiesta R5 driver, Miguel Fuster, won the Rallye Sierra Morena, qualifying round of the FIA European Rally Trophy, as well as the Spanish asphalt championship, based at Cordoba. Grzegorz Grzyb scored a runaway win on the Slovakian championship Rally Presov over fellow Skoda driver Martin Koci. Skoda 1-2-3 at the Swiss championship Criterium Jurassien, won by Michael Burri. = = = = 112 entries have been received for next weekend’s innovative Corbeau Seats Rally, the first closed public road rally to be run in England. It is the first event to be run following the enabling legislation was passed, and will open a debate about the advantages of the new organisational opportunities. In the coming week, details of the proposed route for the 2018 WRC Wales Rally GB are to be announced, which will take advantage of equivalent legislation now passed in Wales. The Corbeau event is organised by the Chelmsford Motor Club and run out of the coastal town of Clacton in Essex, about 100km north east of London. This rally will be based on a traditional format of five tarmac stages each run three times. WRGB is expected to concentrate primarily on forest gravel stages using the legislation to use closed public roads to lengthen forest stages by linking the available routes of adjacent stages together. Closed road rallying has been held in Scotland, Ireland and the Isle of Man. = = = = Hyundai WC driver, Thierry Neuville, is to be allowed to run a Hyundai i20 WRC at shakedown for next weekend’s French Championship Lyon Charbonnieres Rally on VIP promotion duties. = = = = Reigning FIA’s regional Nacam rally champion, Ricardo Trevino (pictured above), won his native Mexican country’s Montanas Rally in his Citroen WRC R5, second round of the 2018 Nacam series. He was co-driven by the Spaniard Marc Marti. On the same weekend, Miguel Baldoni won the Argentino championship Rally Tafi del Valli, based near Tucuman in North Argentina, in his Fiesta Maxi Rally. = = = = Adolphe Choteau One of the greatest West African based rally drivers, French born Adolphe Choteau (above) from the Ivory Coast, has died at the age of 89. For around 20 years he was a stalwart competitor on the Bandama Rallies, and the highpoint of his career was finishing the 1989 event in third place overall. At the age of 62, he was surely the oldest competitor to achieve a podium position on a world championship rally. = = = = FIA President, Jean Todt, told journalists in Corsica that he requires the next generation of World Rally Cars to feature hybrid power systems, which means by the year 2020. Soon after he came to the President’s office in 2009 he announced that “new techology” would be a WRC requirement within five years. There is currently a noticeable shift among car manufacturers in general to employ hybrid or other alternative energy systems, and the FIA’s current rally car formulae finds rallying drifting away from the traditional concept of a sport for production cars.
