When Britain's first rally since the COVID-19 lockdown gets underway this month, the team principal of one of the WRC teams will be behind the wheel. M-Sport Ford's Rich Millener will drive a 1600cc Ford Fiesta R2 on the August 22 event, which runs only for cars built by M-Sport in the last 20 years. It is based entirely within Greystoke Forest, close to the company’s Dovenby Hall base in north-west England. He is no stranger to the inside of one of the rally cars he usually directs from M-Sport’s command centre, having driven an R2 and co-driven former M-Sport and current Toyota Gazoo Racing WRC star Elfyn Evans twice previously. Asked about his ambitions for the event, Millener said: “I want to get to the finish. Obviously I know Greystoke [M-Sport’s permanent test site] pretty well, but the last time I competed there I crashed. I’ll be looking to avoid that sort of result this time.” M-Sport is working on further potential entries from the FIA World Rally Championship, with announcements likely in the coming week. Eight World Rally Cars have already been listed on the entry. “We’re all really excited about this event and getting British rallying up and running again. I’m sure it’ll be a good day and we’ll have a lot of fun,” he said. The event, which will feature about 65km of competition in six stages, sold all 45 of its places within two hours of the entry list opening. “We’re all really excited about this event and getting British rallying up and running again. I’m sure it’ll be a good day and we’ll have a lot of fun,” he said.
